From DACA to Rhodes Scholar

From DACA to Rhodes Scholar! The first time that I ever heard about the Rhodes Scholarship was when we read "The Other Wes Moore" in my 9th grade English Language Development class - a big undertaking for my students since they are all beginning level with their English. It is amazing the takeaways and life lessons and connections my students were able to make while reading the book. One Wes Moore is a Rhodes Scholar while the other is serving a life sentence in prison. (If you haven't ever read this book, I recommend it). Enough about that, this post is not about Wes Moore. It is about another Rhodes Scholar, someone who came to the USA as a child with his family. This young man is a testament to the fact that ALL immigrants are unique, ALL immigrants bring their goals and dreams wrapped in a package and DACA allows them to open that package freely. So much of the news lately has been about keeping the immigrants out, building the wall, stereotyping and lumping all immigrants together. Take a moment and look at what one young immigrant has accomplished with the opportunity given to him here in this amazing country (here's the article: https://www.foxnews.com/us/daca-recipient-makes-history-after-being-named-rhodes-scholar). How much more could we accomplish as a country - together - with love and peace instead of hate and fear?
